How it all Began...

The Hodge-Podge Theatre Company was born out of the Critical Mass Playwrighting Fellowship, formed in the fall of 2002 by four writer/actors: Jaron Burdick, Kevin Thomas Whitby, T. James Belich (Colorado Tolston) and Timothy Goddard.  Critical Mass met bi-weekly with the intention of creating a place where playwrights could meet to encourage and critique each other's work.  In the spring of 2003, with several pieces reaching completion, the Hodge-Podge Players were formed to provide a venue for members of Critical Mass to try out new works.  Roseville Covenant Church generously donated rehearsal and performance space, and in the summer of 2003 the Hodge-Podge Players presented their first season, comprising of three original works by Critical Mass members and one Shakespeare production.  In its second year Critical Mass added several new members and the Hodge-Podge Players presented four new works in the summer of 2004.

How Hodge-Podge Began
In the fall of 2004, with several new additions to its artistic staff, the decision was made to formalize the structure of Hodge-Podge.  The Hodge-Podge Players became the Hodge-Podge Theatre Company, and in December of 2004 a board was formally appointed.  In 2005 we presented our first season at the 4th Street Theater in downtown St. Paul.  Critical Mass remains as the playwrighting wing of Hodge-Podge, supporting its emphasis on new works.
